You need to set your default Calendar folder - it sounds like it's set to the other folder. However this can also happen depending on how your email account has been added to Outlook. If your account has been added as an IMAP type account this can only sync email messages.

Your email account should be added as an 'Exchange" type to fully sync which would be the normal way it would happen for a Microsoft email account - if you're using a different provider this could vary.
