Labels: Funk Hip Hop Soul. January 20, February 02, April 21, Post a Comment. April 07, The mysterious alien lifeform known to man also as Jamal Moss unleashes previously unreleased edit material into the wild, and as we try to comprehend the sound he takes us on the next journey. It's a wild water rafting trip shaking your body to the core.

Welcome to the Pleasuredome! Cheers here you are. Many Tanks!. Mentored by House legend Adonis and a direct spiritual descendent of Ron Hardy's Chicago House legacy, Jamal Moss is a prolific and utterly uncategorisable producer who's been wrecking and re-building House music blueprints for almost 20 years. Second outing on Spectral for Jamal Moss under his Hieroglyphic Being moniker, here once again refining his ability to sound completely spannered and classic at one and the same time.

From here on in the tracks seem to merge into a hazily tripped blur of feathered synth washes, barely audible sub undulations and glimpses of melody carried along by massively compressed kicks, lush stuff to completely give yourself up to.

The track names become sign posts for the territory you're about to enter, with classic reverberating and psychedelic effects such as 'Iboga' and 'Yage' referencing deeply affecting states of mind induced through the course of the album.

Sven Schienhammer has lived his entire life intertwined with music. At first - , he started off making ambient, and pieces in the spirit of early dub techno, in the footsteps of artists like Porter Ricks, and labels like Mille Plateaux, as well as more experimental realms.

As his knowledge expanded, so too did his collection of equipment, he was able to finally bring forth the music he always wanted to make.

His greatest love is ambient, dub techno, deep house, and experimental, as well as original dub and roots reggae. Allen himself contributes vocals to the opening and closing tracks, showing he's more than a drummer, even if his voice is low-key. That he plays so well is remarkable. That he does it like this when he's almost 70 is amazing. Swift 4. After 18 months of 12" releases that completely blew our minds, Honest Jons finally compile their amazing lineup of Tony Allen remixes for this one mighty cd package.

Carl Craig, meanwhile, utilises all the dancefloor savvy and careful vocal manipulations marked out on his finest and most sought after remixes of the last few years, delivering a fierce drum edit as good as his classic remix for The Congos a few years back.

We have a mighty soft spot for the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble reworking that's also featured here, we've been spinning it more or less endlessly since it was first released and everyone we play it to begs us for a copy.

The Ensemble take on Tony Allen's "Losun" and come out sounding like a school brass band touched by pure genius. Hard to over-emphasise how good this is, for sure one of the best things on this excellent set. After further contributions from the likes of Diplo, Bonde Do Role, Wraeika Hill Sounds, Newham Generals, Son Palenque and Salah Ragab, you'll be left in no doubt that you're in the presence of one of the most exquisitely curated, brilliantly executed remix packages of the decade.

His pivotal role as Fela Kuti's drummer in the 70's established the Afro-beat style which has since spread around the world to infect bands and artists as diverse as Vampire Weekend and Bugz In The Attic.

Released in , 'Lagos No Shaking' is the set that gave birth to a slew of celebrated remixes, but more importantly is Allen's return to the super-funked and soulful sound he pioneered with Fela Kuti over 30 years ago. His tightly syncopated yet fluid rhythms have become the cornerstone of much popular West African music and it's really difficult to pick out another drummer who has had so much influence over the sound of an entire genre.

There's an absolute wealth of luxuriant, sun-baked sounds on this album that we implore you to investigate.
